NFL Players get paid to be physical, they hit, they tackle, and block, but this is only supposed to be done on the field.

This past summer instead of more talks of contract negotiations and free agent signings, the talk of the NFL was domestic violence. Most notably, Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice.

Ray Rice was shown beating his then girlfriend, now wife on an elevator in Atlantic City. Ray Rice was then suspended two games without pay for his actions.

In September the Baltimore Ravens terminated his contract and he is now indefinitely suspended from the NFL.

Did the NFL do the right thing?

After all of the sanctions, punishments, and criticism given to Ray Rice for the incident him and his wife still got married, most Baltimore Ravens fans still support him, even other athletes are in support for him such as teammates, and athletes from other sports such as NBA superstar Paul George.

George released a series of tweets, which are now deleted expressing the fact the NFL should still let Ray Rice play in the league even though he is an offender of domestic violence.

He deleted the series of tweets which Indiana Pacers President of Basketball Operations, Larry Bird talked to George about the tweets and simply said they were “Thoughtless”.

Other sports have taken part in domestic violence as well, sports such as basketball.

Charlotte Hornets forward Jeff Taylor has been excused from all team activities because of a domestic violence incident in the off-season.

The Ray Rice story has affected many people from athletes from other sports to the fans that watch it. Domestic violence has no place in sports, and takes away from the game that people enjoy.
