Music Mayhem Magazine JANUARY/FEBRUARY (Papa Roach Faces Their F.E.A.R.) | Page 13

Would you say its better & easier/harder that way?

I think it definitely made us work, I don’t want to say harder but the last record we did “The Connection”, we kind of spread it out over 6-8 months so you know there wasn't like a crunch time, although towards the end of it, it kind of came time and we were getting calls from the label and management saying “Yo, whats going on we gotta wrap this up, you guys done with the record yet?”. This time it was like bam, bam bam. We knew we had this consolidated amount of time to bust out, to be creative. That’s always a hard thing cause you cannot force creativity but there is also something about being in the studio and kind of being under the gun in a way. Everything was a little bit more deliberate like we have to do this cause that just happened in the song. So you know it was sorta like things just laid themselves out as we went.

There seems to be a lot of meaning behind Every Single song on this new album, It seems like a story being told through the music. Out of the 10 songs, What song would you say means the most to the band & what is the meaning behind it?

Thats a good question, I mean Face Everything And Rise is pretty powerful to not only me but to the rest of the band. I would also have to say Skeletons, that kind of introspective kind of stuff but yea but thats what Jacoby does. He writes lyrics about life and real life experiences and everything is real.

F.E.A.R. has 2 special guest vocals, one being Maria Brink of In This Moment & the other being Royce da 5’9”. (Papa Roach really hasn't ever had a guest vocal before on previous albums have they?) What made Papa Roach decide to have guest vocalists on this album and how did you go about choosing these 2 special guests?

Yea, we pretty much hoard our records to ourselves. Its part convenience cause In This Moment was in the same studio recording as we were. So Maria, we've known her and ITM for so long. Again another band we've toured with and play so many shows with so we just dig what they're doing and it was just fitting and we had a part for Maria somewhere, we just didn't know where until the song “Gravity” kind of came about. We were like oh this is the one for her. We then approached her and were like “hey you want to be on a track” and she was just like all about it and she has mad respect for us like we do for them. Then Jacoby just called up Royce the 5’9’ and was like “Hey man, I’m a big fan of yours and was just wondering if you'd like to be on a track” and he hit him back and said “likewise” he was a fan of the band but unfortunately we didn't actually get to meet him just did it over emails and sent him the track and was like thru your verse in here but I think we will meet him out in Detroit.
