MEDIA FOR MUSICIANS There are quite a number of social media tools for musicians to build a fan base, sell music and communicate with his/her audience. From major social music sites; my space, rhapsody, sound cloud, last fm, reverbnation, to micro blogging sites like twitter, social interfaces like Facebook, video sharing sites like you tube and vimeo, pictures management & sharing sites like Instagram, ?icker and even pint-rest to audience relation and event request sites like eventful. Musicians have no excuse for not having their music heard. The important thing is to understand the socialmarketing mix and know where your audience thrives Social media is the biggest selfpromotion tool and it is constantly rede?ning how we share, produce and perform music. The best way to have a positive presence on social media is to have a plan. Lets run through some basics The ?rst step will be to identify your target audience; who do i want to relate with, these could be fans/ friends, record companies, artistes you want to be like, promoters, broadcasters, publishers etc What sort of information do i need to connect with/ engage my audience; i.e what type of stories, news items, images and videos, trivia's, competitions, discussions, music sharing will be necessary to grab and sustain SOCIAL
