The Sake Institute of Ontario is celebrating Sake Day with an event filled with a great selection of sake , food and activities . Apart from Sake Day itself , the focus will be in announcing the winners of the Toronto International Sake Challenge ’ s ( TISC ). All of the Category Winners will be available for sampling . In addition , trying unique sake and food pairings and testing your blind tasting skills will be some of the featured activities .

JOHN GAUNTNER ’ S SAKE PROFESSIONAL COURSE

To kick off a sake-filled October in Toronto , John Gauntner will be coming to teach his Sake Professional Course in Toronto , the first time the course has ever been offered in Canada . The course is geared toward industry professionals wishing to expand their horizons in a thorough manner into the world of sake , and will therefore be somewhat technical in nature , and admittedly somewhat intense . It is likely more than the average consumer needs ! But the course is open to anyone with an interest in sake and will certainly be enjoyable .

OKUNOMATSU 300TH ANNIVERSARY SAKE DINNER

ki modern Japanese + bar is celebrating Sake Day with a few events . On October 1st , a special sake flight is available of not readily available sake from brands rarely seen in Canada . In addition , ki has organized a very special and intimate sake pairing dinner with the Okunomatsu Sake Brewery . Established in Fukushima in 1716 , and tracing its roots back to a samurai family , Okunomatsu has for three centuries produced some ofthe finest sake in the Tohoku area of Northern Japan . Mr . George Yusa , President of Okunomatsu , and Mr . Takeshi Tsushima , Okunomatsu ’ s International Sales Manager , will be in attendance to celebrate sake and 300 years of sake history at Okunomatsu .
The menu will consist of an original five course menu created by ki ’ s chefs paired with an exceptional lineup of sake brands , some of which are not available in Canada .
