HOW JAPANESE IS SAKE? 3 HOW JAPANESE IS SAKE? Sake is quintessentially Japanese to most people. It is made in Japan, where it has an ancient history. It is a product of paddy fields and mountain streams, and sold in bottles adorned with Japanese calligraphy. It is drunk in tiny cups, usually after a toast of ‘Kampai’. What could be more Japanese?
