“One challenge I often
face is that many athletes out
there are familiar with my
journey and want to be part of
the Legend Nation movement,
which at its core is focused
on natural athletes. This may
discourage some ‘enhanced’
athletes into thinking I may
not want to work with them.
I recognize their efforts at
promoting our message of
positivity through fitness,
but sometimes their image
doesn’t align with the brand. I
do not discourage this; it just
may not be a suitable fit.
“Certainly another
challenge is establishing an
understanding and friend-
ship with someone, but then
coming to realize that from a
business sense there’s a clear
difference in objectives. You
have to be very diplomatic
sometimes, so as not to hurt
anyone’s feelings. A pro
might think it’s all about win-
ning, but sometimes I have to
remind them to enjoy the pro-
cess and the journey. Legend
Nation is really for everyone,
be they fitness competitors,
powerlifters, CrossFit athletes,
etc. My aim is to keep it
inclusive while providing a
pedigree of excellence.
“I think one of the best
current resources available is
Instagram Stories. It offers
you a new way of promoting
to people who already have a
deep-rooted interest in you.
It allows you to use a combi-
nation of stunning photos or
videos, paired with illustra-
tions or brief text, all in a slide
show. You talk to the camera
just as if you were addressing
a client or fan one-on-one.
People are often suspicious
of simple plain text, but
Instagram Stories offers an
interesting, multi-dimensional
presentation, culminating in a
‘Swipe Up’ function, and from
there you’re just one step
away from a sale. I’ve found
it to be a consistently suc-
cessful promotional platform.”
