Some last, some don’t, but this has to top the list for ideas with good intent. Plogging, a name which com- bines the terms ‘jogging’ and ‘plocka upp’ (the Swedish term for pick up), encourages us to pick up litter whilst out running to keep fit and help the environment. It may sound loony, but fitness app Lifesum are allowing their users to log and track their litter picking activities. The idea is that you run along, then squat or lunge to collect rubbish. According to Lifesum, ploggers will burn up to 288 calories in just 30 minutes, which isn’t bad going for doing your morning bin duty! 140 MUSCLE & FITNESS / APRIL 2018 A spokesman for Lifesum said: “The global health app, Lifesum (www.lifesum.com) has recently integrat- ed plogging within the array of exercises its users can log. “Users can simply select plogging and input the amount of time spent doing the activity. The app then instantly calculates the number of calories burned - for example, 30 minutes of plogging burns off 288kcals (depending on body weight). “Plogging (the Swedish words for ‘run’ and ‘pick up’) works to tackle these, encouraging people to participate in picking up rubbish while running.
