But his success as an athlete is dwarfed by his success as both a businessman and as a family man. M&F’s Mark Laws speaks exclusively to Jason to find out how he replicates success in every part of his life… 124 MUSCLE & FITNESS / APRIL 2018 /// BY MARK L AWS /// PHOTOGR APHS BY ALI SAMIEIVAFA - NCFIT MEDIA It all started back when Jason was at high school and he began working on the front desk of his local gym. Then he went to College and started working in the sales department but the budding young athlete soon realised that the dream he was selling people could never be achieved in that mainstream gym environment. “Something wasn’t adding up for me” he explains, “the results I was promising people weren’t actually happening for them and I found a lot of that was because they didn’t have a coach or a community to support them”. Good quality coaching and being part of a team or community are instrumental when it comes to excelling at sports, which is exactly what this young man was doing. But when he realised that his customers were not achieving their goals by working out alone in a rudderless environment he took his first step in what has become a lifetime commitment to practising what he preaches. In 2006 the future Games winner was introduced to CrossFit® and after spending a year familiarising himself with its nuances and getting to grips with the intensity he never looked back.
