Learn more about what makes this strong and sexy athlete tick in this exclusive interview. cayleen.lockey For how long have you been training? I started 6 years ago when I was still at varsity. One morning I woke up and was not happy with the person I saw in the mirror. I was unhappy with myself and how I looked and decided to take back my life and make some big changes. At that point I was smoking a box and a half of cigarettes a day. I started to train, eat clean and I quit smoking. Since that day I’ve never looked back! Tell us about your first show. My fitness journey was not just about looking good, but about learning to put my health and happiness first. Fitness became a sanctuary; a place where I could go and train and feel good about myself. The first show I ever competed in was the IFBB King Shaka Classic in 2016 where I placed 2nd in my division – Beach Bikini. Later my boyfriend, the late Danie Flemming, suggested we do a NABBA show together. I placed 4th in my category, but competing was never cayl33n really my dream at the time. It was Danie’s dream. He was an amazing bodybuilder. As soul mates we trained and prepped together, pushing and motivating each other. Although he passed away in a car accident on Valentine’s day he will forever remain a source of strength. Did you compete again? After Danie’s death I decided to pick myself up and compete again. I only had 4 weeks to prep for the Conrad Nagel Extreme Classic, but received incredible support from so many people. I placed first and took the Overall Beach Bikini title, too. I was a recipient of a beautiful memorial trophy in Danie’s honour! I was also given the incredible opportunity to represent Team South Africa at the PCA BodyPower in the UK and placed in the top 6 in an incredibly tough line-up. It was absolutely mind-blowing. “There is something magical about watching your body change and to learn your personal strengths and weaknesses.” 86 Muscle Evolution
