FAST FACTS BIRTHPLACE: Krugersdorp, West Rand OCCUPATION: Personal trainer HEIGHT: 1.67m COMPETITION WEIGHT: 80kg OFF-SEASON WEIGHT: 88kg COACH: IFBB Pro Hennie Kotze MENTOR: Corné Marais SPONSORS: TNT Mercury and Ciccone Pharma MOTTO IN LIFE: “KNOW YOUR WORTH, THEN TAKE WHAT IS OWED TO YOU!” What is the biggest difference between progress and staying in the same place as a bodybuilder? The best answer to this question, especially in the highly competitive bodybuilding environment, is setting goals. Goal setting is the master skill of success and in no other sport is this truer than in bodybuilding. Every month, every week, every day, every workout, and every rep and set you have an opportunity to achieve your goals and to set new ones. MORNÉ’S FAVOURITE TNT MERCURY SUPPLEMENTS: ■ BCAAs How much muscle did you manage to gain in your year away from competition? I gained 10kg of stage weight. How did you do it, Morné? I followed the Y3T training system invented by bodybuilding visionary Neil Hill. He started thinking out of the box when training injuries held him back from going all out in the gym. By changing things up over a three-week period he was able to continue building quality muscle. It was my coach Hennie Kotze who first introduced me to Y3T. The reps and sets differ each week. One week I would use heavy weights, the following week would be lighter with more volume training, and the week after that I would focus on doing a series of super or drop sets. It is basically about constantly introducing a new training stimulus. I love it and believe it is the ultimate muscle- building programme. It built 212 (96kg) champion Flex Lewis. So, would you recommend taking Y3T for a test drive? Definitely! Building muscle requires that you know exactly when to push and when to back off. This is central to the Y3T philosophy.
