he fifth edition of the hugely popular
Battle of the Titans competition, hosted
by Physical Culture Association SA, was
held over two days in Durbanville, Cape
Town. And, for the first time ever, a brand
new champion was crowned.
Emihle Baneti was in magnificent condition,
toppling the incumbent champion Xolile Damba, who
has dominated the show since its inception four years
ago. A total of 166 athletes competed, in comparison
with last year’s 132. “I’m very pleased with the
event, and I think it is ideal to split it over two days.
The quality of the athletes was phenomenal. I have
also received fantastic feedback from the public in
attendance,” said PCA SA chairman Kevin Schwartz.
Baneti faced some tough opposition from Chris
Nguta, but his outstanding conditioning sealed the
deal in the Senior Men under 75kg category. Baneti
also had to fight his way to the top of the Overall
line-up with Ryno Cordier, winner of the Senior Men
under 95kg, pushing him all the way.
Rachelle Havenga won the Ladies Beach Bikini up
to 1.63m division and went on to conquer the Overall
trophy with her class and style. A determined Delano
Rasmus displayed an almost flawless physique,
winning the Men’s Muscle Model up to 1.78m
category and the Overall Muscle Model title.
An athlete who is definitely going places is Matthew
Parker with his astonishing quad development. He is
rapidly making a name for himself as one of the top
competitors in the Under 23 years category.
Paul Prins can be proud of himself with another
under 90kg victory. He brought an extremely tight and
superbly conditioned physique to the stage. Roxanne
McLachlan was also in excellent shape, winning the
Overall Fitness Bikini title. Alethea Cusens showed
her competitors what she was made of in the Ladies
Beach Bikini over 1.63m category, one of the toughest
line-ups at the event. She can feel satisfied with her
performance, walking away with gold after going the
distance against 17 other competitors. Danny de
Jager was unstoppable, winning the Overall title for
Classic Bodybuilding.
Congratulations to the organisers – Kevin and the
crew – sponsors, participating athletes and fans who
attended one of the best competitions in South Africa.
