udging from the turnout of athletes
competing at the first Pro Am hosted
by dual federations NABBA and WFF
South Africa, bodybuilding in this country
continues to gain momentum. Officials
and participants of these bodybuilding federations
have through the years been pushing hard to give
the sport a new lease of life, and with a changed
focus on quality muscle rather than sheer bulk
their hard work seemed to have paid off, with a
total of 159 athletes braving the chilly weather to
participate in the Pretoria Classic Pro Am Show on
Saturday, 13 May.
Participation numbers suggest that there is still
interest in sculpting one’s body to compete on the
competitive circuit, while the potential to be awarded
a Pro Card at the show, which would make athletes
eligible to participate internationally in Pro shows
that typically feature cash prizes, also proved to be a
