SOUTH
AFRICAN
CHAMPIONSHIPS
T
he NABBA/WFF SA Chris Scott memorial
Nationals, held on October 4 will go down
as a day to remember in SA’s bodybuilding
community. On Wednesday, 28 May this year,
South Africa lost a bodybuilding legend with the
passing of Chris.
His bodybuilding knowledge originated from
training with legends Arnold Schwarzenegger, Reg
Park and many more. Chris was truly inseparable
from the sport for decades. Chris joined NABBA
in 1990 and was instrumental in growing the
federation, ensuring that a NABBA SA team was
sent to compete at the NABBA Universe or NABBA
World Championships every year.
He became president of NABBA SA in 1999,
and in 2011 his dream for NABBA SA came
true when the WFF leg of NABBA international
was introduced to South Africa. Since then the
federation has grown tremendously, yielding
various top placements and numerous world
champions. Chris set the example of commitment
to each athlete.
He continued to coach bodybuilders regardless
of whether they supported NABBA or not, as he
believed in freedom of choice. He was also an
internationally qualified judge and officiated at
numerous world championships and Mr Universe
contests.
In his memory, WFF and NABBA Presidents Alet
Lemmer and Bev Scott put on a cracker of a show in
the form of the NABBA SA Championships. Athletes
from around the country, all top performers in their
respective provinces, gathered at UNISA in Pretoria.
