Athletes from all over SA could be found in and around the venue, selected by their individual provincial committees as the best in their province to compete against the rest of the country. It’s very rare that I ever give bad publicity to a show of this magnitude but for the first time in my eleven years in this industry it has to be said that as a whole I was disappointed with the conditioning of the majority of the physiques I saw on stage. There were some big names in this show with big physiques but conditioning was severely lacking, even in seasoned athletes that managed to secure first in their relevant categories. On that note there were a handful of athletes who really dialled in their game and did their homework come showtime. Athletes that really stood out for me where Lizelle Horn who not only won her bikini division but also went on to win the overall Fitness Bikini title. Lizelle has really improved over the years and already a seasoned international competitor, I am Muscle Evolution pretty sure it’s only a matter of time before we see her crowned IFBB Pro. Another lady who really impressed was Monique Norval. She showed massive improvements from the last time I saw her compete and she took top honours in the ladies Body Fitness up-to-163cm division. 2014 also saw the return of Lenel Le Roux who, believe it or not, has more than a success story to tell. Diagnosed with cancer and practically back from a death sentence, Lenel beat all the odds and stepped on stage in her best condition to date and cleaned up in the Body Fitness O/168cm category. Lenel is a true inspiration to the human spirit and proves once again that when you choose to never give up you become capable of many great things that life has to offer. The lighter weight men’s categories saw some incredible physiques in the form of Thulasizwe Sifatui and Oscar Ratya, building up to a few well- known names such as Carlos Nunes, Dylan Ridley and Chris Fitzpatrick all taking, and in most cases, defending their titles as South African Champions in 3 MENS BANTAMWEIGHT 1 Tabelani Myathaza 2 Zanovuyo Vanda 3 Loyiso Mapekula Monique Norval BODY FITNESS UP TO 168CM 108 2 1 1 Monique Norval 2 Jaqui Havenga 3 Michelle Guest BODY FITNESS O/168CM 1 Lenel le Roux 2 Delyse Botes 3 Marcelle Collison 3 2 1 FITNESS BIKINI UP TO 163CM 1 Nicolene Booysen, 2 Corne van der Bank 1 2 BEACH BIKINI U/163CM 1 Jana Malan 2 Christy Griffiths 3 Monique Strachan 1 2 3
