M.E FEATURE By Joe Pietaro Images by Gary Phillips T he entire bodybuilding industry heard the words from none other than Arnold Schwarzenegger, who is still considered the loudest voice in competitive bodybuilding 35 years since he last competed himself. This took place the day after his Arnold Classic and once again 'the Austrian Oak' was critical of the physiques on his stage. However, this time he pointed some of his anger towards the IFBB judges, who have been favouring the bodybuilders who sport a wide midsection as opposed to a V-taper. “We have to make sure we are rewarding the right guys because then everyone will start training to have a beautiful body again,” Schwarzenegger said during his seminar in Columbus, Ohio. “You’ve got to look at everything. For instance, so many of those guys have their stomachs sticking out… it used to be that you should have a V-shaped body. Now it’s like a bottle shaped body or something like that. We have to make sure that we are rewarding the right guys.” This may have sounded similar to the complaint that Schwarzenegger had in the past, but he put the exclamation point on it by singling out none other than the president of the IFBB. “He’s (Jim Manion) in charge of the judging, he’s in charge of picking the judges… you have to talk to him,” commented Schwarzenegger. “You magazines and also the Internet and every other means there is – call out on him and call out those judges. Because that’s how you create change.” ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Joe Pietaro is the Founding Editor of MuscleSport Magazine (www. musclesportmag.com), a five-tiered media outlet covering bodybuilding, sports and fitness.
