MTL Christmas - Page 10

Leer from the Ed Andrea Stock It’s the most wonderful time of the year! PUBLISHER: Kirk David Blank Twinkling lights, festive carols, the scent of evergreen, decorations at home and on every street corner, holiday gatherings with family and friends—Christmas has come to mean many things to many people. EDITOR: Andrea Stock But no matter how you celebrate Christmas, I hope, more importantly, you will remember Whom you are celebrating. My prayer is that as you read through this magazine, you will find articles that not only provide practical help for handling the holidays but also speak to your heart and point you to Jesus. Inside this issue are tips on decorating and entertaining to spark your imagination, a guide for gift-giving and some fun travel destinations for the Christmas season. Yet even in the midst of the hustle and bustle, our cover girl Korie Robertson reminds us to take time for what matters most—faith and family. As a mother of five, she shares her story of becoming one big happy family through God’s gift of adoption. But let’s face it. Sometimes Christmas is not the season of joy we want it to be. It could be the little things that always seem to add up. For that, “Giving the Gift of Time” by Elizabeth Byler Younts or Kathi Lipp’s article “A Picture Perfect Christmas…or Not” will encourage you to lighten up instead of burning out. Or it could be something more serious such as unresolved family friction. In “Getting Along at Get-Togethers,” Jen Hatmaker addresses this topic with genuine consideration and candor. The recipe for joy, however, can be found in the acronym for j-o-y. We must first begin with Jesus, then others. “Good Will Toward Mankind” by Jill Hardie illustrates how we can give a gift to Jesus by giving to others. While the articles in the “Faith” section comfort us with the assurance that since God has given us the greatest Christmas gift, His Son, we already have all we need. Whether you start a new tradition this year or celebrate the oldfashioned way, may your Christmas be all about Christ—the Reason for the season.
