TAIL LIGHT INTEGRATION Giant Numen+ Uniclip TL | RRP R319 | giant-bicycles.com Integration has been one of the buzzwords in cycling design for a few years now, but still there are products which amaze us at their simple integration with existing systems. The Giant Numen+ Uniclip Tail Light is one of these. Attaching to all Giant and Liv Contact saddles, the Numen+ Uniclip features a 4-hour run time in day mode; 8 hours in high, 15 hours in middle and 30 hours in fl ash. It has a built in lithium-polymer rechargeable battery, which is charged with a micro-USB cable, plus auto shut down and motion sensor activation features. RACE WITH THE SUN SunRace 11SPD Chain Ring | RRP R1 552.95 | sunrace.com Another cost-eff ective upgrade, if you’re looking to ditch that front derailleur, is SunRace’s 11 Speed chain ring – complete with 175mm alloy-forged cranks. The crank arm’s spider is compatible with 28 to 34 tooth chain rings, all of which feature a narrow/wide tooth pattern, and include a SunRace BBM97 bottom bracket. MINIMALIST FULL FINGER Giro DND Gloves | RRP R495 | giro.com Giro’s Down and Dirty (DND) gloves feature exactly what we like from our full fi nger mitts. A soft suede palm, for protection from crashes but with no actual padding to interfere with the feel, and a thin breathable upper make for a simple but eff ective set of gloves. Plus, the DND’s have textured touch screen fi ngertips on the index, middle fi ngers and thumbs; and an absorbent cloth panel on the back of the thumb for wiping the sweat from your weary brow. ROWDY RIDER YT Industries JEFFSY | RRP R44 900 | yt-industries.com YT don’t do understated, and their fi rst foray into trail bikes – the JEFFSY – echoes that ALL-CAPS approach. With 140mm of travel front and rear (with the rear travel boasting the effi ciency of a horst-link suspension design) and 67 or 67.5 (depending on the fl ip chip’s setting) head angle, the JEFFSY is a trail devouring machine. YT says it climbs with aplomb but it really comes alive, as you’d expect from a YT, on the descents. In fact, YT team rider Bryan Regnier has raced the 27.5 wheeled model on the World Enduro Series, on events where pedalling effi ciency needs to be dovetailed with downhill stability and agility. 36 | MTB | gotta have it
