ANGI HAS YOUR BACK
Specialized S-Works Prevail with ANGI |
RRP R4 500 | www.specialized.com
The Specialized S-Works Prevail helmet is one of the best-
loved road and MTB lids around. Not only do you see riders
on the Big Red S’s bikes rocking them, they cut across the
bike brand barrier because they are light, well ventilated
and sexy. With MIPS and Specialized’s dedication to
research and development you know they’re safe too. With
ANGI they just got even safer. ANGI has a built-in crash
sensor (on the retention system behind your head), which
synchronises with the Specialized Ride Premium app and
alerts your specifi ed emergency contacts, via text, in the
case of a crash. The Specialized S-Works Prevail with ANGI
comes with a year’s subscription to the Ride Premium app,
plus it syncs with Strava® for GPS-based activity tracking.
With SPD compatibility and sealed
cartridge bearings, Bontrager’s
Comp MTB pedals are hardy and
user friendly. They feature dual-
sided clips and a tension release
dial to ensure the right pressure
on your cleat to adjust for the
perfect personalised balance
between power transfer and an
easy release. The all-black look is
pretty eye-catching too.
WAX ON WAX OFF
WEND Wax-On |
RRP R400 | www.
wendperformance.com
WEND’s Wax-On is, WEND say,
the world’s fi rst rub-on chain
lubricant. You simply rub it onto
your chain and work it into the
rollers with your fi ngers. This
process and Wax-On’s paraffi n-
based formula, the company
says, is as good as, or better than,
the molten paraffi n immersion
method. We cannot judge those
claims for ourselves just yet but
it is a fascinating concept and, at
R400 for a year’s supply of chain
lubricant and Wax-On specifi c
chain cleaner, it’s worth a try.
LIVE VALVE ANTHEM
Giant Anthem Advanced Pro 0 | RRP R149 000 | www.giant-bicycles.com
As piloted by IMBUKO Giant’s Marco Joubert and Nicol Carstens, the 2019 Giant Anthem Advanced Pro 0 bikes feature FOX’s Live Valve
technology. Before we get to that though, the Anthem platform has undoubted XCO and XCM class. The Advanced range features full carbon,
including a carbon suspension rocker, construction, boost wheel spacing, plus Giant’s smooth and effi cient Maestro Suspension lay-out. Paired
with FOX’s Live Valve, which automatically adjusts the fork and shock independently as the terrain changes, the bike now features range-
topping component technology too. The suspension controller, located below the bottle cage, incorporates signals from the frame and both
wheels to monitor the terrain 1 000 times per second. It then makes suspension adjustments in just three milliseconds – or 100 times faster
than the blink of an eye, in terms which are still too mind-boggling to really visualise.
