Nowhere else in Victoria offers a true backcountry experience fully supported by Ski Patrol services throughout the snow season . Keen adventurers can head out alpine touring and enjoy the trails winding their way to the Summit and beyond , being rewarded with fresh tracks and sublime views as far as the eye can see - all with the knowledge that Ski Patrol are there if they ’ re needed . Always up for a chat and to share local knowledge , visitors can drop in to see the team and discuss the best place to head that day , fill out a trip intention form and get the lowdown on snow conditions .
Stirling Experience Alpine Camp
Like the idea of snow camping yet not ready to commit to the full shebang of your own equipment ? The Alpine Camp operated by Stirling Experience is the ideal way to experience snow camping with a little help . Nestled high in the mountain at the Cricket Pitch area , seven accommodation tents ( each sleeping four people ) surround a central teepee structure designed for dining and relaxing around the pot belly stove . Sit under the stars and listen to the absolute quiet of the night sky and you ’ ll truly feel so far from the everyday . An experience not to be missed - BYO gluwein !

There ’ s nothing that makes you feel further from the stresses of the everyday than getting into nature and experiencing an environment so different from home . Mt Stirling is rich in history , from the first people of the rivers and mountains , the Taungurung Clans , to the mountain cattlemen and adventurers that have enjoyed the mountain over the years . One way to discover some of the fascinating history , as well as the natural environment , is by exploring the Mt Stirling Interpretive Loops . The 4.4km Wombat Drop Loop and a 12.3km Summit Loop feature a number of interpretive signs along the trails , telling the stories of Mt Stirling ' s history , from the olden days of logging to the thrill of the ‘ Man From Snowy River ' movie set and the characters that create the past and present , as well as the flora and fauna that make up the stunning environment . Easily tackled on skis or by snowshoes , the interpretive loops are a unique alpine activity .
