Public Health Analysis - Epidemiology (EPI) Objective
The Master of Public Health (MPH) Public Health Analysis – Epidemiology focus area gives the foundation for
students to be trained professionals in the area of Epidemiology so they can contribute to the development of
knowledge and methods for the study and identification of the scope and distribution of public health problems,
their causes, mechanisms, solutions, and evaluation of interventions, thereby improving health outcomes and
reducing health disparities. Students following the focus area are expected to move on to careers where they are
mindful of and sensitive to the community cultural context, and who collaborate in interdisciplinary teams that
can contribute to the study and identification of the scope and distribution of public health problems, their
causes, mechanisms, solutions, and evaluation of interventions.

Incoming MPH students choosing to follow the Epidemiology focus area must enroll in two Epidemiology
courses found below and choose one elective course within the department’s course offering:

Public Health Analysis - Biostatistics (BIOS) Objective
The Master of Public Health (MPH) Public Health Analysis – Biostatistics focus area trains students to be
trained professionals in the area of Biostatistics at the master’s level so they can contribute to studies and
analyses of public health problems, and collaborate with organizations’ staff and community members in
designing and conducting studies that will contribute to improve the public’s health and the elimination of health
disparities. Students following the focus area are expected to move on to careers where the mindful of and
sensitive to the community cultural context, and who can collaborate in the application of biostatistical methods
with interdisciplinary teams that design, collect, and analyze data of public health problems and, especially, of
health disparities.
PHA-BIOS Courses
Incoming MPH students choosing to follow the Biostatistics focus area must enroll in two Biostatistics courses
found below and choose one elective course within the department’s course offering:

Generalist Track (GT)
The Master of Public Health (MPH) generalist program provides its students with research, policy making,
program planning, and cultural skills. Graduates are competent in the development and implementation of health
promotion and disease prevention programs which support behavior change at the community, family, and
individual levels.
GT Courses
Incoming MPH students choosing to follow the generalist track must choose three (3) elective courses, one from
each department Behavioral Health Sciences (BHS), Public Health Analysis (PHA), and Health Policy and
Management (HPM) in a formal documented meeting prior to registering for second year courses.
