2. Community Service. Another way that Veterans can ease the sense that something is missing is to get involved in community service or volunteerism. Becoming more engaged in your community will give you a chance to make friends while serving needs larger than your own. Coaching youth sports, serving on a local school board, mentoring at an organization for kids, and leading at a faith-based organization are all tremendous ways to serve. Your capacity to do good and to serve others goes well beyond the days that you spent in uniform.

Ultimately, the path to finding a good life post-transition is all about identification and action. Examine your feelings without fear, identify goals and opportunities that will give you a sense of purpose, and get started. There’s never a better time to become the best, most fulfilled version of yourself than today.
