HOT JOBS

This year has been a year of growth and evaluation at CASY & MSCCN. We’ve expanded our programs, assessed our strengths, and leaned into figuring out our weaknesses so that we can do better, be better, for the community that we are proud to serve. When we look back on this year, we have to know that we didn’t always get it right. We’re human, of course we didn’t always get it right. We are dedicated to our mission, and we want to be all things to all of the people we want to serve at once—sometimes at the expense of ourselves.

When I find myself feeling low, when my energy stores are depleted, when I can’t think about the summit anymore because I’m deep into that process of being humbled, I’ve learned something very important: Be aware of the eggs in your basket.

Growing up, I always heard the adage “Never put all of your eggs in one basket.” For the most part, this axiom is true—especially when it comes to actual eggs. If you put your eggs in one basket, you’re risking them all. What if the basket breaks? What if one of the eggs is bad? What if you accidentally

set your basket down, and the eggs in the bottom are crushed? If you have a long way to go, maybe your basket will get too heavy, maybe you’ll have to leave some of them behind.

When it comes to making it to the summit, however, I would encourage you to keep your eggs in one basket—but be very particular about your eggs.

Look around you. Look at the team you’ve surrounded yourself with, whether that’s your family, your friends, or a work team that inspires you to keep trying even harder. Even when you feel like you’re failing and flailing, these members of your team, they are the core of what will keep you going. They are your source of strength, of stability, so that you can keep pushing to make it to the top. The rest of the world may feel crazy, and you may feel crazy in it, but you know you’ve got the best eggs in your basket—and that can make all the difference.

As you look forward to the new year, I wish you the strength and the energy you need to accomplish your goals, and the egg basket that will support you as you strive to make your dreams reality.
