Sports Soccer IISSAC Stars By Ju Hoon Park Joy Park (7th) Joy Park, a 7th grade girl who has already been playing soccer for several years, proved herself an important player for the Eagles at the IISSAC tournament. While inexperienced, she portrayed ardent passion by persevering through intense training intended for high school players, thereby gaining many opportunities to play in games. She scored numerous goals throughout the season and improved dramatically, turning her into a player many opponents dislike (a good thing for us!). To everyone who has watched her play, her future looks very promising. Seth Parks (12th) “Seth is tall, constant and stable defense whom I can trust” says Stephen Kusuma, one of Seth’s teammates. Senior soccer player Seth has been playing soccer for the past three years, alternating between numerous positions ranging from goalie to midfielder. Thanks to his experience as a goalkeeper and a basketball player, he supported the Eagles with a number of assists and important blocks. His discipline and talent led to the least number of goals scored on the Eagles ever seen. Basketball Season By Sun Jin Lee On November 12, MICS Varsity A team competed against SMK Negeri 2 and defeated them with an overwhelming score of sixty-six points. On the 22nd, Varisty A played against UKSW FTI in an intense match. MICS was only winning by one point in the beginning, but the boys pulled up the points at the last minute, scoring a total of fifty five points. Just four days later, they defeated Lab again and showed off their remarkable defense. Varsity B had their first game on Friday against the Gold Stars but lost by twenty points. Despite the loss, Coach Grant claimed that a “Defeat is not a defeat if we learn from it.” On their third game, Varsity B proved vast improvements by scoring thirty five points. JV boys too lost their first game against SMP Negeri 1 by ten points. After JV boys’ game, girls’ Varsity team played against SMA Negeri 3 and lost just by one point. On their second game, however, Varsity girls won by showing off a perfect defense, only allowing SMA Negeri 3 to score two points. This year, the MICS basketball teams revealed their passion towards basketball and started off another season well by showing the potential to grow and improve in the future.
