Changes in Mountainview By Ha Sung Kang The biggest visual change this school year is the large brick wall in front of the secondary building. “If you go somewhere, there is always a sign that welcomes you,” Secondary Principal Scott Martin expressed his views on the wall. As a result, a lot of time and energy have been poured into creating this multipurpose wall. First, the wall implicitly reflects the values of our school with the different flags celebrating diversity and the Eagle mascot representing unity. In addition, the cement steps below the wall are specifically designed for students to hang out and socialize during break and after school. Finally, the new wall provides a special place for both students and visitors to take memorable pictures in Mountainview. GYM THE WALL Last year, the secondary students shared their lunch area with the elementary students at the pavilion. This arrangement not only caused space issues, but it also interrupted the secondary classes as the elementary students had their lunch fifteen minutes earlier than the secondary students. However, this problem was solved this year by moving the lunch tables to the gym, creating a place for the elementary to enjoy their lunch away from the ongoing secondary classes. Elementary teacher Mrs. Stacey Hicklin pointed out the benefits of their new pavilion such as having greater space to spread and the closer location to the playground and the classes. Moreover, these tables provide a suitable location for the spectators to comfortably watch and eat during school tournaments and events. I “ f I was to rate the previous weight room, I would give it a D, whereas the new weight room will be an A+,” said Secondary Superintendent Don Mcgavran. With the financial contribution from the class of 2013 last year, the weight room underwent a major remodeling this summer, expanding about fifty percent of its previous space. The weight room also includes a new door, windows, and three air conditioners. In addition, all the old equipment will be replaced with new gears such as cardio machines, free weights, and other weight lifting machines. The weight room is currently unavailable, but it will be accessible starting from early October. The weight room will be a public area where Mountainview students, staffs, and families can work up a sweat. 11 WEIGHT ROOM
