of our GPSs. We started the ascent immediately and I was out of breath pretty quickly due to the altitude. The transition took about 30 minutes through grassland high up in the mountains. Totally mesmerised by the beauty of the highlands around, I thought that even if I crash right here, the trip would have been worth it. Arriving at the first stage, everyone was sent off in enduro style, with 15-30 second gaps in between. Before I knew it, I was pacing along a narrow rocky trail gasping for air, searching for red tape for directions, getting lost and bundu bashing to find the path again. I was skidding along over rocks and drops hoping to stay on my bike somehow, and totally overwhelmed with the task at hand. At some point, the rock garden line turned into some kind of clay tunnel. I couldn’t find traction and more or less slid along into the finish. I was very dizzy from the altitude and it is safe to say that I was never more intimidated by a course before.
