Sam Manicom set off, planning to ride the
length of Africa, for a year. He’d been riding a
motorcycle for just 3 months the day he got to the
edge of the Sahara.
This year of adventure, which saw him shot at,
arrested, jailed, and hospitalized, turned him from
a novice biker to a man who knew the value of the
open road on two wheels. Finding no good reason
to return home as planned, Sam continued
motorcycling around the world for a total of 8
years. During this time he rode 200,000 miles
across 55 countries.
With the aim of sharing the fun with those who
have too many responsibilities to set off on the big
trip, and to encourage those who could, to go and
do, Sam has now written 4 adventure motorcycle
travel books.
His first book Into Africa takes
to take more time to observe the landscapes, the
people, the histories, the colours and the cultures
of Asia. He still has more than his fair share of
adventures including being rescued from an
accident by Australian Hell’s Angels, being brought
back to life by a Thai prostitute, a time spent with
smugglers in India and a clash with a dose of road
rage in the mountains of Turkey.
