Motorcycle Explorer November 2016 Issue 14 | Page 85

The event closed its doors on Sunday around midday, and although a large amount of people left upon waking on the Sunday morning the presentations were still well attended. The trip home was a “direct as possible” affairs taking in motorways (as that is their sole purpose – to get from A to B as quickly as legally possible). Sitting here at home reflecting upon HUBB UK 2016, I think it is fair to say that the event was finding its feet again after the 2015 absence. Whereas for the most part, the presenters were knowledgeable in their subjects, some of the presenters clearly needed to practise their pitches as a number read word for word off their index cards with little or no eye contact with their audience. The Baskerville Hall was a great venue let down only by the extreme rainstorms experienced at the start of the event making for a very wet camp ground. Although it was reported that there was free Wi-Fi Internet in the reception area of the Hall itself, in reality it was non- existent and should not be counted on for any attendee. Mobile phone signals were almost perfect the far side of the campground (I got a 4G signal for example) so that was OK. The mix of presentations and workshops was great to ensure a wide disbursement of attendees in the rooms. I would suggest however that Grant gets a larger room for his tyre/puncture workshop! To conclude, I would recommend the HUBB UK event to any budding overlanding explorer. It is an event which has enough diverse topics being presented to please everyone and give plenty of nourishment to those considering exploring distance realms of the world. WWW.HORIZONSUNLIMITED.COM A Word from Grant Johnson - Co-Funder of Horizons Unlimited It's great to be "back". We had a LOT of mail asking about the event, and the turnout shows clearly it was missed, so we're pretty chuffed. :) With a brand new venue and a new team we had a lot to learn, but we've listened to the feedback as we always do, and there is plenty afoot to make it even better next year.
