Glencoe
Scottish Highlands
Back to the homeland of the UK again
for world rider Jason Spafford of Two
Wheeled Nomad! You can’t argue with
the choices and the views that these
amazing roads will afford any explorer
that cares to ride them. Glencoe is really
the classic highland look for me with the
rolling green hills and blue waters and
of course nature can be found in
abundance.
Glencoe is indeed a photographer’s
paradise with some of the most diverse
of wild animals to be found on land and
in the sky. It’s always worth a stop and
look up and you may be lucky enough to
see the Golden Eagle guide effortlessly
overhead. A Red Stag thundering to rutt
over territory and of course there are is
the fishing if that’s your want! All of this
in natures playground in a country that
is enlightened enough to have wild
camping a legal right fof just about
anywhere you car to pitch your canvas.
The night also offers the willing explorer
unmatched views of the stars cast in
clear black velevt or perhaps you will
have the good fortune to watch natures
light show with a casting of the aurora
borealis or Northern Lights as they are
more commonly known – don’t forget to
try the haggis!
Jason's Website
Starts: Tornapress
Ends: Applecross
Length: 12 miles
.
Time: About 40m, not including stops and depending on
weather... and sheep!
Best ridden in: Late spring and summer. The route is
treacherous in winter, visibility can be hampered by dense
fog, so check weather forecasts before tackling the route.
Failing that, on the day... look up, if you can’t see the top
for clouds – the choice is yours.
Top tip: Start early in the morning to beat the hordes of
camera-clicking tourists. Take this one with plenty of fuel
in the tank, there was a fuel stop at Applecross but there
was talk of this getting shut down.
