I think it’s hard to deny that this one is pretty important. Anyone can make sure there is fluid in the
reservoir and with the torch on your phone you can check that your pads have meat enough on them.
But so many people just never check them. Brake pads are in two layers. The steel backing plate and
the sacrificial friction material. You need at least 1mm to pass an MOT but 2mm is the least I would
be happy about before riding out for the day. I’ve seen so many bodged brake maintenance jobs. If
you are in any doubt then please take it to a professional.
Ted tip: Brake fluid is Hygroscopic which means it absorbs moisture. That’s
why it needs changing every 2 years.
