Finally, one of the most breathtaking motorcycling roads on the planet as we prised ourselves away from cozy Yerevan and rode through misty mountains to Kapan. Spaghetti switchbacks led us high and dry, up and over the Meghri Pass to the border at Agarak. Here we picked up our Reza, our Iranian guide, and the beauty of the trail wowed us all the way to Tabriz. We’d never used a guide before and were a little wary as the concept is so at odds with the notion of independent travel offered by the saddle of a motorcycle, yet travelling with Reza soon became a delight. We used his wagon to cart most of our soft luggage, lightening the load on the bikes and he proved to be a knowledgeable chap when it came to the cities and sights we would visit across Iran.
