We also discovered that we had arrived the day before some bloke called Will was turning up with his wife Kate and the place was crawling with cops and media. Having got the obligatory photo of Mo and the Big Rock, we escaped before the circus truly geared up. If I sound rather blasé about Australia’s most iconic landmark, it is because I have visited twice in the past – before it became a tourist trap, exploiting the unwary. Back then it was magical, now it was just tiresome which is a real shame. But don’t get me wrong – I have a very soft spot in my heart for the Northern Territory – it was the reason I became a pilot.
