KAZAKHSTAN , THE HELL

The Customs dependence of Uzbek consisted of a dirty rectangular cubicle , two by three meters , built with rough concrete . A rickety chair . A wobbly table of disrupted pressed wood . A gray file cabinet . Three windows covered with translucent dust . An elongated bill board with a phrase taken from the Koran , written in Arabic , hanging crooked on a shelf . Lying on a neighbor self was an unleavened flat bread , a blackened kettle , two hundred flies and a radio emitting endlessly an atrocious stew of music , mixt of electronic pachanga disco beats with the wailing of traditional Asian songs .

I stood , waiting to get a temporary import permit for my motorcycle . Beside me , a group of military and civilians argued loudly with a lot of fuss . I observed the soldiers . There ' s something about the way they wear their uniforms that destroys the possible distinction that uniforms normally convey : it was their shoes . I noticed that over here , military and police members never wear boots . They use low quality worn shoes , often with the sharpened toe form somewhat warped upward and the heel crushed down probably to make it easier to remove them .
