In The Shed
with Dave Pickering
Budding DIY Dave as we know him is here again to give you some cheap tips on adding bits to
your bike! Last time we had Dave knock up a top box for under £10 ... we are yet to see how that
holds up on his trip! If nothing else it will be amusing. So, this month Dave is looking at a tool
roll, where and how to make it and of course how to fit it to your bike.
I
have on my Transalp the standard
Adventure Bike strong Plastic Tool Tube and
wanted to put one on the Crf250. Problem was
where? I tried along the upper sub frame and
made a mounting. I was often looking at
DR350's and Xt600's with Ammo Boxes
positioned in front of the Engine. I had a Small
Ammo box and tried mounting it in the same
way. Alas the curve of down pipe as it came out
of the front of the engine, wouldn't allow me to
open the Ammo Box.

I spent some time with Graham Field Author of
In Search of Greener Grass and Ureka (Note
from Ed - as well as the columnist at MEM of
course!). On his Bike was what I desired. "
Finding the line between desire and
contentment. Then riding it or making it. I
haven't adapted, changed or even come up
with a single R&D improvement. What Graham
had on his trusty 650 was what I have copied.
So this is how you change a load of bits into a
tool tube!
