In Tunisia we sent an email to Mo , our contact in Libya who had helped arrange our visas. He
assured us that the media showed a very negative image, but that life in Libya was as normal
as in any African country. The disturbances were an internal matter and not aimed at
travellers. He was sure it would be safe for us to cross. He was expecting two other motorcycle
riders who would also ride through Libya to Egypt and suggested we could team up with them.
We found ourselves in Djerba, in the east of Tunisia, with another two days to enter Libya
before our visas would expire. Unable to make up our minds, we decided to first ride to Ben
Guardane, a town just before the Libyan border. We would then have to make a final decision
on whether or not to enter Libya the next day.
