MEM - Wonderful Roads and Places
You’re going to be riding the second
highest paved road in Romania at the
peak (that’s actually a tunnel and the
longest in the country at over 800m
one of five tunnels that run the course)
this rises to 2034m This is not a racing
road as the average you will travel is
about 40kmh due to the switchbacks
and hairpins.

Rather than just being a
spectacular road to ride on
with amazing views of the
mountains there are also a
few must stops to be had.
The top ones being the
Vidaru Dam, the cable car
from Balea passed the
waterfall (open in winter I’m
told) and of course Cetatea
Poienari. Along the ride there
are plenty of restaurants and
hotels and even the odd
camping spot if you feel so
inclined (do let us know if
you made your tin can stove
for your brew!).
