A dventure: "to venture upon an undertaking of a questionable nature...of unknown outcome." We all dream of doing the long adventure biking trip of a lifetime. Taking us away to explore for months on end. Where both the hardship and the adventure becomes part of your soul. The stuff of dreams. But the true reality for the majority of us is that we have to make our weekends work for us in the same way. Not many of us can afford the time (or money) away from our work, homes and families. What is important is to be able to get that break away from the norm, let the wind flush out all of those thoughts that bog us down, feel our muscles and our senses alive with the thrill and pleasure of being on a motorbike. It doesn't matter if it's a short trip, a day long or trailering the bikes somewhere for a weekend, we make it happen Johannesburg, South Africa has been our home for twelve years. Who are we? My name's Claire, I ride a KTM 390 Duke and my husband, and patient mentor, Richard, rides a KTM 990 ADVR. . Sometimes we just ride our gorgeous local area of Lanseria, great for a quick spin, like a comfortable old shoe. Other times we opt for a new and exciting route and either ride it all or get up long before the sparrows and trailer to a base so we roll out as dawn's breaking. I've been pillion with Richard since we were fifteen years old and we would ride all over our hometown of Durban. Back then Richard had an XR200RE and that was our 'adventure' bike! We were never held back and any road which led off into the bush Richard would ride with me clinging onto him. Forests, rivers, haunted houses, old railway lines and bridges you had never known were there, we found. After our twin daughters arrived I shied away from bikes for many years although I'd still help with maintenance (I should've been a machie - I really enjoy it) until when the children were a littler older and we were in Jo'burg (Johannesburg) Richard bought the KTM 990. I said, "Hello gorgeous," to the bike, my Christmas present that year was safety gear and a new full faced Airoh dual purpose helmet, I jumped back on the bike with my husband and I never looked back! .
