Travel - Adventure - Journey - to many these words are synonymous with international borders and languages unknown . As an avid internationally traveler I love the cultural explosions of difference , and although the historic cities of the United States cannot compete with centuries of history within the buildings of Europe or the magnificently unique cultures of Peru it has a natural landscape variety blending from many locations around the world all in one country .
When I was planning my year long adventure I knew I needed to go ... but where I had not quite decided . I always wanted an extended trip around my home nation . For the last 9 years I have made sure to travel abroad at least once every year and it got me thinking that maybe it was time to take my holiday at home . As a child we traveled a lot and always took advantage of summer and school holidays ! If we did not have school you would often find our family traveling to a new national park , visiting historic sites , or as we got older and moved to Europe - we began traveling through borders as well . I realized I wanted to re-visit sites that I had not set foot on since I was a child , and never seen through the eyes of windowless and doorless travel - thus the journey was given a name and direction .
