The Zumo 660 ( or this derivative ) is very easy to use and since I am quite proficient in using the Garmin route planning software ( MapSource and BaseCamp ), an ideal tool . Now , the little known 60CSX is not a specific motorcycle SatNav device - it is a more generic unit doubling both as a handheld device and a vehicle unit . The reason I have selected this unit is due to its size . Now , I could have had two of the same sized unit ( yes , I have 2 other Zumo 660s as well as this derivative unit ) and just about fit them in on the screen bar on the bike , but I have opted to have one of each as there will be a little more room . I have got a lockable mount for the SatNav as well as a 12v powered connection to supplement the AA batteries which the unit can also take . There is also a free and legal way to update the maps on the 60CSX whilst on the road ( see the MEM site for more information on that ).

Part of my deal with my family that allows me to go on the road is the ability to check-in with them . I like to know my loved ones are OK , I like to report on my progress and I like to reduce their stress levels " wondering " what I am doing and where I am . I have been to places where mobile ( or cell phones depending on your culture terminology ) are none existent , and due to this a mobile / cell phone can ’ t be my only method of communication . I have opted to use the subscriber service SPOT and its personal tracking device - my particular version is the 2nd generation unit but they pretty much all do the same unit - they use either GPS or satellite comms to report your lat long position on the planet back to SPOT HQ and there systems . I heavily use a free service called " SpotWalla " which couples the reports from the SPOT tracker and
