“My animation style is based on the early avant-garde pioneers of cinema whose experiment
with the moving image lead to cinema as we now know it. The unique thing about this
labour-intensive process is that it leaves a constant residue. The charcoal marks can never
be entirely erased and history lingers behind while other elements are drawn and move
on across the page. The results speak to Sebastian's mental decay. Memories linger, and it is
not clear what is real and what is not. Ultimately it helps to illustrate the persistence of
memory as we watch Claryssa try to find redemption.”
