SARAH LYONS By: Rachel Greiner arah Lyons was born in the 70’s in San Francisco, CA. The only daughter to a multi-talented, true hippie couple, Sarah was surrounded by artistic influence her entire life. Her grandfather was a nature photographer in Alaska. Her father was the Foreign and National News Editor for The Seattle Times. Both her mother and grandmother are known for their amazing vocals and her brother is a famous rock star, currently performing in the Las Vegas show Million Dollar Quartet. Despite omnipresent inspiration growing up, however, when career-minded Sarah saw financial opportunity for herself in the real estate market, she went for it. Residing in Scottsdale, AZ Sarah was doing quite well for herself, until 2008 when the economy suddenly crashed. The downfall of the market resulted in her unemployment and she knew she had to do something to overcome the economic battle she would soon be facing. Little did she know, this would be the fresh start she needed that would allow her to tap into her own channels of creativity. Excited to delve into something new, Sarah purchased an amateur lighting kit and a camera off eBay. She had always admired the work of photographers she’d seen online and recognized the situation as the perfect opportunity to try it herself, though she knew it wouldn’t be an easy transition - emotionally or financially. 74 || FITNESS M A G A Z I N E || APRIL / MAY 2015 “My biggest struggle was making sure I had a roof over my head! When things aren’t working, you need to recognize that and fix it to better yourself.” She quickly became completely immersed in honing her newfound skillset, focusing on all of the learning curves photography brings. Having worked as a model years earlier, Sarah started out working with some of her friends as her subjects, and put her experience to use with her ability to instruct her models in regards to their posing, body language and facial expressions. She experimented daily with Photoshop and other programming skills to perfect her unique style, and traveled to LA to shoot every chance she got.
