the easy choice, music. In 2012, Devin made his way to Los Angeles to pursue his dreams, realizing “the music wins every time!” hen talking to the singer-songwriter about creating music, we begin to see just how spontaneous and effortless his creative process is. “I don’t necessarily have a constant method to my madness.” Whether it’s a lyric, he can’t let go of or a beat or guitar riff that he has to lay down as soon as possible. He finds inspiration from the same situations that most do…e.g. love, pain, home, big booties, and blessings. He never feels more inspired than when he listens to Sam Cooke, Lauryn Hill, Nate Dogg, Stevie Wonder, Snoop, JT, Robin Thicke, and the list goes on. Is it just us or are you stuck on his appreciation for “big booties?” If there were the opportunity to collaborate with other artists, Devin’s list would be filled with musical giants Lauryn Hill, Big Sean, Drake, and J Cole. He mentions the musical lane he is creating for himself. “We now live in a genre-less world, and I think if I stay true to who I am as a person and as an artist, then there won’t be any room for comparisons.” In an effort to expand his brand, he has been cross-promoting his music with movies, clothing and commercial products. Devin is eager to see if the sky can limit where he wants to go. So what keeps this artist grounded, humbled, motivated and hungry, “God, love, family, and Chipotle.” His appreciation for Mexican food is not lost on us. As our time with this remarkable young talent to watch, comes to an end, we ask him what music means to him. “Music is a beautiful escape from reality, when music is on, the world is off.” Finding ourselves lost in this parallel world, we cannot help but feel compelled to “Move” to the rhythm that is Devin K.
