Family Music Fest
Activities of the 2013 Morgan Hill Freedom Fest , produced by Independence Day Celebrations ( staffed by dedicated Morgan Hill community volunteers ), started on Saturday , June 29th with a family friendly Bike Classic that offered fun rides for all ages , from a six- mile ride to a newly added 100K ( over 62-mile ) ride . However , there was much happening even before the ride began . Children from Morgan Hill and San Martin submitted their essays answering the questions : “ What is your favorite patriotic song ? Why ? ” back in April . Over two hundred essays were submitted in two divisions : primary ( 2 and 3 grades ) and intermediate ( 4,5 , and 6 grades ). The winner of the primary division pretty much sums up the feeling for the week-long celebration :
Hello , my name is Phoenix Byers , and my favorite patriotic song is “ God Bless America ” because it reminds me of our free country and how lucky we are . It reminds me of the people who sacrifice their lives to keep us safe and I think that they are outstanding . I am thankful for that ! That ’ s why I love “ God Bless America .”
