While working with neurosurgical patients and their families as an RN, I discovered that I also had passion for education. I loved how education could make a difference to a patient’s wellness and the satisfaction of improving their hospital stay. My nursing mentors at MSU helped identify a career that would maximize my talents and strengths. The Adult-Gerontology Clinical Nurse Specialist with Education concentration gave me challenging clinical opportunities. The projects and clinical work I did within the program were impressive to Sparrow Hospital. They offered me a position after graduation. "The education I received at MSU provided the infrastructure on which my efforts are anchored. I was motivated to become an advanced practice nurse to elevate the quality of care provided to those in my care with the knowledge gleaned from the best of medicine combined with the art and science of nursing. Currently I am a patient-focused, evidence-based advocate serving as a preceptor and instructor to advanced practice nursing students, a resource for staff nurses, and a collaborator for multidisciplinary teams. In my practice, I assess, develop, implement, and evaluate ongoing interventions for multiple complex medical conditions in patients with chronic kidney disease, which include hypertension, hypervolemia, anemia, and metabolic bone disease management. I also coordinate multidisciplinary management of end stage kidney disease clients. I recent
