MICHIGAN STATE UNIVERSITY COLLEGE OF NURSING • NURSING.MSU.EDU Innovating with Technology to Increase Student Access to Learning The quest for innovative teaching methods dates back to the 1960s, when the College created a self-paced visual and auditory instruction methodology so innovative that it was purchased by Harper & Row Publishers and distributed nationally. Simulation technology has been at the forefront of instruction with state-of-the-art centers: The Janice Thompson Granger Nursing Learning Center, which includes an anesthesia operating room, and the Learning and Assessment Center. In addition, the Media Lab supports virtual learning using an interactive ambulatory clinic simulation for NP students. Creating a highly visible presence for nursing in the university's health science campus, the Bott Building for Nursing Education and Research provides space for students and researchers to conduct bio-behavioral research and community outreach. ADVANCED PRACTICE NURSING When MSU began online courses, the College was among the first to take full advantage of the internet with a pharmacology course that attracted students from all over the country. By the late 1990s, nursing courses were offered both online and via interactive television. 7
