Interview with Professional Crocheter

Gisselle Baldwin

Who inspired you to begin your ministry of crochet ?
My mother , the late Joyce Lorraine Baldwin inspired me to crochet . i used to watch her create beautiful things and in 2012 , God told me to pick up where she left off .
What things did she create ?
She made sweater sets for babies . But what i loved the most is her passion for making granny square comforter sets , along with the pillow cases .
Did she make items for anyone in particular ?
Yes she would take orders for different customers , and she created different bedroom sets for my adopted Grandmother who was a famous Gospel Singer , the Late Marion Williams .
How long did it take you to learn ? How old were you when you started ?
A a very young age , my mother would try to teach me , but I would always get stuck and frustrated on the the teaching of the chain , so one day she just said that crocheting might not be for me ... In 2012 I was told to try again and from that day on I created thousands with the help of some DIY youtube videos .
Do you create using a pattern ?
To be honest , I get a pen and paper and start off writing a pattern . But as I start to crochet , the design always changes and is usually better than the original design that I had anticipated to make . So for the most part , I use no patterns .
