DU THÉ ET DES GÂTEAUX POUR FAIRE SOURIRE DES PATIENTS ATTEINTS DU CANCER

Linda et David sont follement amoureux . Même 48 ans de mariage ne peuvent rien y changer . Quel est le secret du succès pour les deux tourtereaux ? Partager et répandre l ’ amour .
Depuis dix ans maintenant , Linda Chermin- Rosenblatt et Dr David Rosenblatt offrent du thé ( servi dans des tasses en porcelaine ), des gâteaux et de la musique aux patients atteints du cancer . Tous les jeudis après-midi à 14 h , à l ’ étage d ’ hématologie-oncologie du site Glen , Linda ( la pâtissière ), son mari ( le musicien ), et les bénévoles du CanSupport des Cèdres organisent le Tea @ 2 .
« Je suis originaire de Terre-Neuve . Si vous voulez souhaiter la bienvenue à quelqu ’ un , vous lui préparez un gâteau — de A à Z ! » Et Linda va encore plus loin en préparant 20 gâteaux de A à Z . « Depuis dix ans , j ’ apprends à connaître les gens , une part de gâteau à la fois », dit-elle , en rayonnant .
Les patients peuvent choisir entre une tarte choco-canneberge , un gâteau-croustade fraise et mangue , un gâteau marbré au fudge et à l ’ orange , en plus de 17 autres options . Le gâteau quatre-quarts au citron est toujours au menu , car le citron est une saveur que même la chimiothérapie ne peut altérer .
Saveurs à part , Tea @ 2 aide les patients et leur famille à oublier le cancer pendant une heure . « Le cancer devient la chose qui les définit , et c ’ est dommage », explique Linda . « Quand je pense à Mary , que tout le monde connaît comme la femme avec le cancer du sein , nous offrons une atmosphère où Mary peut redevenir Mary , sans devoir parler de sa maladie si elle n ’ en a pas envie . »

TEA AND CAKE BRING SMILES TO CANCER PATIENTS
Linda and David are madly in love . Even 48 years of marriage can ’ t change that . So what ’ s the sweethearts ’ secret to success ? Sharing the love . For a decade now , Linda Chermin-Rosenblatt and Dr . David Rosenblatt have treated cancer patients to tea ( served in real china ), cake , and music . Every Thursday afternoon at 2 p . m . on the Hematology Oncology floor at the Glen Hospital , Linda ( the baker ), her husband ( the musician ), and Cedars CanSupport volunteers hold Tea @ 2 .
“ I ’ m from Newfoundland . If you wanted to make someone feel welcome , you baked them a cake — from scratch !” Linda goes several steps further by baking 20 cakes from scratch . “ For 10 years , I ’ ve been getting to know people one piece of cake at a time ,” she says , beaming .
Patients choose from cranberry chocolate torte , strawberry and mango crumb cake , orange fudge marble cake , and 17 more . Lemon pound cake is always on the menu since lemon is a flavour even chemotherapy can ’ t alter .
Flavours aside , Tea @ 2 helps patients and family members forget about cancer for an hour . “ Cancer becomes the thing that defines them , and that ’ s a shame ,” says Linda . “ When I see Mary and everyone knows her as the lady with breast cancer , we provide an atmosphere where Mary can feel like Mary again and not have to talk about her disease if she doesn ’ t want to .”
