Warts
One of several soft-tissue conditions of the foot is warts . They can be quite painful not to mention unsightly . They ’ re caused by a virus and can be resistant to treatment if neglected . Treatment may vary from simple debridement and application of topical medication to surgical excision under aesthesia . Warts may take several treatments to resolve and over 50 % resolved without surgery .
Flat Foot
This deformity can result in arch , ankle , knee or back pain . Abnormal pronation affects balance of lower extremities and places stress on major weight bearing joints . Over 50 percent of children who are treated with custom orthotic devices before the age of eight will see structural improvement to the arch .
There are new advances in surgical correction of severe flat feet with the use of subtalar joint stents . A small incision is made in the skin and the stent slides into the natural space inside the foot . This is done in the office under fluoroscan or real time x-ray . Patients are usually back in regular shoes within one week , and there are no limits to activities once healing has occurred .
With proper detection , intervention and care , most foot and ankle problems can be lessened or prevented . M
