Faites sonner les cloches
Keep the Bells Ringing

LA MUSIQUE POUR LES PATIENTS ATTEINTS DU CANCER MUSIC TO BENEFIT CANCER PATIENTS
Le dimanche 19 novembre , les cloches sonneront à l ’ église St-Andrew et St-Paul . Les cloches de l ’ église et de l ’ orchestre résonneront , mais la cloche à l ’ honneur sera celle du Fonds La Cloche .
En partenariat avec CanSupport des Cèdres , le Fonds La Cloche amassera des fonds afin d ’ offrir à chaque nouveau patient diagnostiqué d ’ un cancer au CUSM une trousse de réconfort . La trousse aide les patients à traverser la chimiothérapie avec une couverture en molleton , une bouteille d ’ eau réutilisable , un bloc-notes , un magazine et des menthes pour enlever le goût métallique des traitements .
« Notre devise est le patient avant tout », explique l ’ entraîneuse et fondatrice du Fonds La Cloche , Judy Martin . « Jusqu ’ à présent , nous avons surpassé les attentes avec 900 000 $ de fonds amassés . Maintenant , nous avons la responsabilité de continuer pour les futurs patients . » Et les cloches doivent continuer à résonner : chaque son de cloche marque la fin des traitements de chimiothérapie pour un patient .
M me Martin explique que le concert « Symphonie pour la cloche », comme tous les événements du Fonds La Cloche , aide à amasser des fonds pour les trousses de réconfort et à sensibiliser les gens au cancer et aux épreuves vécues par les patients . « Mais nous voulions que ce concert apporte de la beauté durant une période grise de l ’ année », dit-elle . « D ’ excellents musiciens dans un décor enchanteur avec une bonne acoustique et des rafraîchissements après le concert . »
L ’ orchestre I Medici di McGill ( Les médecins de McGill ), composé d ’ employés et d ’ étudiants de la Faculté de médecine de McGill , sera la symphonie en question . Le violoncelliste Stéphane Tétreault , classé parmi les 30 meilleurs musiciens classiques de moins de 30 ans selon la radio CBC , performera également avec un Stradivarius de confiance à la main . M
On Sunday , November 19 , bells will ring at the church of St . Andrew and St . Paul . Church bells and orchestral bells will sound , but the bell of honour is the Bell Fund .
In partnership with Cedars CanSupport , the Bell Fund raises funds to provide every newly diagnosed cancer patient at the MUHC with a Comfort Kit . The kits help patients endure chemotherapy with a fleece blanket , reusable water bottle , notepad , magazine , and mints to remove the metallic taste from treatments .
“ Our motto is ‘ patients come first ’,” says Bell Fund coach and founder , Judy Martin . “ So far we ’ ve exceeded expectations with $ 900,000 raised . Now we have a responsibility to future patients to keep going .” And for the bells to keep ringing : With every ring , a cancer patient signals their final chemotherapy treatment .
Mrs . Martin says the “ Symphony for the Bell ” concert , like all Bell Fund events , helps raise funds for Comfort Kits and raise awareness about cancer and what patients go through . “ But we wanted this concert to bring beauty to people during a grey time of year ,” she says . “ Great musicians in a beautiful setting with great acoustics and refreshments after the concert .”
I Medici di McGill ( Physicians of McGill ) Orchestra , made up of staff and students of the Faculty of Medicine at McGill , will be the symphony in question . Cellist Stéphane Tétreault , ranked among CBC Radio ' s 30 best classical musicians under 30 , will also perform with trusty Stradivarius in hand . M
