Michael D. Fratkin is a builder, an innovator and a dreamer who approaches life and the practice of medicine with love and respect. Standing on a foun- dation of inspiration and burnout, Dr. Fratkin began creating ResolutionCare Network to build capacity for capable and compassionate palliative care in the rural Northern California community in which he made his home. He has been a transformative and provocative voice for improving the experience of people and families facing the completion of their lives while ensuring that the meaningful professional experiences of those providing care is of equal importance. Justin Maxon was born and raised in a number of small towns in the woods of Northern California, where he grew up part-time on the Hoopa Valley Indian Reservation. He studied journalism at San Francisco State University. As a photographer, writer, and filmmaker, he is committed to working on projects that reveal different variables of truth in humanity’s conflicted existence, and projects that incorporate various artistic forms and expressions. He has received numerous awards for his photography, including UNICEF Images of the Year, American Photo, two first place awards from World Press Photo, and the Deeper Perspective Photographer of the Year at the Lucie Awards. 71
