Landscaping Jennifer Bakshi URBAN OASIS LANDSCAPE DESIGN Certified as a landscape designer by the New York Botanical Garden, Jennifer Bakshi’s spectacular English gardens graced the May 2010 issue of Montclair Magazine. She has since downsized to a more compact property, but there’s still plenty of room for varied blooms and charming features. OPPOSITE PAGE A wall of Bakshi’s garage presents a mural of a dancer painted by a friend. It is visible beyond this path to the greenhouse. CLOCKWISE FROM TOP RIGHT An umbrella gives the sense of a ceiling in this private, quiet space. Large urns spilling over with flowers are regular fixtures of English gardens. Brick pavers lend a natural look. The tallest shoots in the center of this urn are rosemary. Bakshi converted a third bedroom into a four-season design studio that opens to her garden. With ample direct sunshine, she rarely needs to heat it, even in winter. A cattle trough purchased at a Flemington agricultural product store is made of galvanized metal. Robins perch on its edge to drink water, which a fountain feature circulates. The hot tub is partially sunken into the ground, and is made of preformed fiberglass. The whimsical, decorative garden beyond Bakshi’s front door is festooned with topiary art. A boxed-in flower bed at right sports blooms of soft blue and white. • • • • • > MONTCLAIR MAGAZINE MAY 2017 39
